Demolition of the Penguin Encounter building is in full-swing
Friends of the Wild is gutted but you can see where the 70's zigzag windows used to be The Puffin wing coming down
There's just tons of debris all over, and dumpsters loaded up to go out
It looks like they're being methodical about the demolition...possibly saving components for the new buildings
At this rate the site should be cleared in a few weeks Having the Sky Tower open to all guests is great, and they've got it open to Quick Queue as well Over at Shamu Stadium they're still working on Dining with Shamu
They're working on the floor and from what I hear they are still figuring out how it will all work and there is no set re-opening date yet The orcas were all lined up

February 1, 2012

Workers appear to be disconnecting all the cooling/refrigeration systems on the old Penguin Encounter building in preparation for demolition. Work is still continuing on the new facade for Turtle Trek. From all we've heard about it, it sounds amazing!

January 31, 2012

The entire Penguin Plaza area has been stripped of vegetation and all of the shade structures, leaving the funky 70's fountain as one of the only things still in place aside from the buildings. The area beside the penguin building has also been cleared showing just how big the area for the new attraction will be.
The Friends of the Wild store has been completely gutted, but it is our understanding that the building will be staying and getting re-themed as part of the new area, while Antarctic market and Penguin building are being completely demolished. All the debris is being chopped up and packed into dumpsters to be hauled away.
You can see right through Antarctic Market now. The little drink stand is coming down now.
The workers are being very deliberate about tearing things down and packing up the debris. The overhangs on the buildings were the first things stripped away.

Demolition on the Antarctic Market has begun
The trees alongside the Penguin building have been removed and are sitting in a big pile to be hauled away
By late afternoon the whole overhang was gone.  Hard to say if the whole building will be demolished or if it's just going to be remodeled once it's down to a simple box.
The concrete pad along the pathway has become a temporary store
Nice discount for the Just For Kids event Journey To Atlantis has reopened after rehab
With unseasonably warm temperatures in the 80's all week, a lot of people were riding to cool off!

It's a great teaser for the new area coming in 2013.

The game that was on the edge of the Atlantis area is now under Manta's drop, and a new pad has been poured up the walkway for another stand or game.
The construction walls extend all the way back to Pacific Point and the gates at the back of Kraken.
Turtle Trek is coming along, with a new decorative facade being applied to the entrance area.
