Nitro
Opened in the 2001 season, Nitro was the tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster ever built at Great Adventure. When construction began at the end of the 2000 season, it was obvious Nitro would be huge, and enthusiasts followed construction throughout the bitterly cold Winter, as the coaster rose above the shore of Prospertown Lake. Nitro has remained a park favorite since it opened, still drawing long lines all season. It is also among the world's top coasters in industry and enthusiast rankings year after year since its debut. When Nitro opened, there
was a "Survivor" style contest to become among the first riders
on opening day. |
